About Kieran
I began tutoring GCSE Maths students at the age of 16, whilst I was taking A levels myself. There were a few students struggling in the years below so my teacher suggested me as a tutor to their parents because I achieved an A* in Maths and an A* in Further Maths in my GCSEs. My cohort was the last academic year to be graded using the old A*- G, and so I quickly learnt to tutor specifically for the new 9-1 grading system. I have found that my passion for Maths can be infectious, causing my students to responsively become more engaged with the subject. I am extremely happy to say that every student I have tutored has gone on to pass their maths exams! Over my years as a Tutor I have come across many students who leave classes at their schools not fully understanding what they learnt that day. The most notable problem I come across is students not knowing WHY they are using a specific method to solve an equation, and this is what I see costing a lot of students the majority of their marks. Exam boards are extremely rigorous today. You are required to show your working out as proof of your understanding to gain the full marks, and because my partner works for an exam board I know this is the key to achieving top grades. Teachers face extreme pressure and challenges when it comes to making sure a class of 30 kids all pass their exams, and as a result some students can get left behind causing them to lack motivation and self-confidence in their maths ability. But the reason I love tutoring is because there is nothing more rewarding than when you see these students learn new skills and gain the ability to work out exam questions for themselves. The moment their eyes light up because they finally understand how it all works. I see them gain a new wave of confidence and self-discipline.
