About Riko
Hi, I’m Riko, a certified Japanese teacher from Japan, currently living in NYC. I earned my Japanese teaching qualification through my university studies, and I enjoy helping students feel more comfortable expressing themselves in Japanese.
Before moving to NYC, I worked as a firefighter in Japan, which taught me responsibility, patience, and calm communication. I have also always been someone people feel comfortable talking to, and I care about creating a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
I want my students to feel safe making mistakes, asking questions, and speaking freely while learning Japanese.

Hi, I’m Riko, a certified Japanese teacher living in NYC. My lessons are not like strict classroom lessons. They are relaxed conversation sessions for people who simply want to talk in Japanese, share everyday thoughts, and get more comfortable speaking.
In a typical lesson, we can talk about your daily life, interests, worries, goals, culture, travel, relationships, or anything you want to share. During the conversation, I will gently correct your Japanese, give useful feedback, and suggest more natural phrases so you can express yourself better. After each lesson, I will also send you notes with key corrections, new vocabulary, and useful expressions from our conversation, so you can review and keep improving.
Before moving to NYC, I worked as a firefighter in Japan and also volunteered to listen to people’s personal concerns. Through those experiences, I learned how important it is to create a safe, comfortable space where people can speak freely. My goal is to help you improve your Japanese speaking skills while enjoying real, meaningful conversation.
