About Lyla
I am a Cambridge geography student who achieved 9 grade 9s in my GCSEs (including a 9 in Geography) and 4 A*s in my A-Levels (including an A* in Geography, as well as an A* in my geography-related EPQ). In the past, I spent a year and a half tutoring at a primary school level (in English), and also done targeted pre-exam sessions at GCSE level (in Geography, English Language, and Maths).
I have always loved school and learning, I find geography truly interesting and love to speak about it with anyone. I am open and excited not only to teach, but also to learn from my students, and to establish a relationship of respect by making lessons enjoyable. I have strong communication skills and effective essay writing skills that I am excited to pass on!
Aside from academics, I love running, swimming, yoga, and volleyball. I spend lots of time reading (both fiction and non-fiction), but I also enjoy a pub quiz or an evening out with my friends. I am a huge advocate of the importance of maintaining a work-life balance!

I can teach geography to primary and secondary school students, or offer support with university applications to sixth form/college students. My lessons usually last an hour, but if a student needs something else, I am ready and willing to adapt.
With recent experience in taking geography exams myself, my lessons revolve around learning through application of knowledge. By attempting practice questions, writing essays (or essay plans), and going through past papers, we can identify gaps in students' knowledge and establish techniques that they will be able to use in their exams. As a tutor, I can also be flexible - I can mark students' essays and give them feedback, help them with homework, advise on essay structure and writing technique, or cover gaps in their knowledge through a more structured lesson.
As all of my university applications resulted in being made an offer to study, I can offer advice and support on the UCAS application process, such as sessions supporting students in writing and editing their Personal Statement. For prospective Oxbridge students, I can offer interview practice sessions during which we can discuss key geographical ideas to learn how to translate the knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom into an interview context.
