• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  I teach Business and General English as well as Public speaking skills. In my previous work as a lawyer, I developed my skills in effective communication, negotiation skills, presentation skills, and business etiquette. I realized that even if English is your mother tongue, this type of English is not so easy. So when I moved to India I thought this would be a great area to go into and began teaching French professionals. I really love my job and feel proud of my learners who keep on improving.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  They often say those who can't teach but I think this is totally incorrect. Those who teach can definitely do well in their subject. It is just that I feel for some there is an inbuilt passion to pass their knowledge to others and to help others achieve their goals. Certainly, for myself, I feel this inner drive.

• How does your work help society?

  I feel that when you teach a language you are helping people to connect better with others and in turn that leads to less misunderstandings and miscommunication. As a result, there are less conflicts. In addition, when individuals improve in a language they gain a sense of achievement which then drives their motivation in their jobs which then leads to a better society.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  My role model would be my father as he was always so patient and kind when he would teach me things as a child. He is extremely knowledgeable with the rare ability to put both sides of the story allowing others to have the full picture and draw their own conclusions.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  I love to write poetry and do this whenever I get inspiration! I am also a little obsessed with playing tennis at the moment, I thrive on the thrill of the game. Plus if I get time I also like to swim and do yoga.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  Recently one of my learners told me how my training in dealing with social settings has made her so much more confident and comfortable talking to people. I also helped her with body language and public speaking skills and she is now eager to continue with her workshops whereas before she was apprehensive. It really made my day when she described how I had helped her!
