About Angela
I have always had a love of books and am a collector of antique and vintage books, these are often in need of repair, some minor and some needing complete restoration, it was this that led me to the wonderful world of the bookbinder. The discovery of the different types of stitches such as Coptic, French Link and Chain Stitch; the plethora of papers used, many originating from Japan, not just for their exquisite design but for the durability in paper that is gossamer thin and the history of this ancient art, meant that as a graduate of history, I just had to learn this art form.

Learn a skill which will enable you to make your own books, notebooks and journals so you can start a business of your own. You will learn the essential stitches needed for various types of books such as soft covers, hard covers and photo albums; plus the different materials to cover your books including handmade paper, material and leather. We cover the various types of paper to use for inside your books, and the essential tools you will need to get started. Once you are familiar with making books, we will dive into the additional skills needed to offer a repair service to your customers. Finally the course concludes with how to price your work and set up your business. At the end of the course you will have built up a portfolio of 6 unique books and know where to buy supplies and get started on your journey as a bookbinder.
