About Sophy
Although I was born in North Carolina, I moved to Ecuador when I was barely a toddler. Growing up there, I was exposed to a culture different from the United States. Now that I have come back for my undergraduate studies, I have learned to appreciate the beauty of both worlds. Music, outside activities, and friends have made my adaptation process way easier, and this is what I would like to transmit to my students: a friend they can rely on to improve a skill they can use to improve confidence and, of course, make more friends!

I incorporate a variety of resources and activities into my lessons, including interactive exercises, games, multimedia materials, music, art, and real-life scenarios, to reinforce language skills and deepen understanding. Additionally, I emphasize the importance of regular practice and provide students with opportunities to actively use and apply their knowledge through speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities.
As I grew up in Ecuador for 18 years, a Spanish-speaking country, I have learned to fully domain bilingual skills. Now that I am a pre-med student-athlete studying advanced sciences in English, I understand the challenges of communicating in one's second language.
I tailor my teaching methods to suit each student's individual needs and learning styles. I believe in creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, essential steps in the language acquisition process.
I am a junior biochemistry student at Belmont Abbey College, a member of the soccer team and the tri-beta biological honor society. I graduated from High School with the IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate). Additionally, I can play a few instruments (piano, violin, and guitar), which helps me provide more methods to teach and connect with students.
