About Amanda
I'm a social worker by profession and I first learned Spanish when I was in 8th grade - a late bloomer, if you will. I think the strategies that helped me pick up a second language quickly can be adapted and applied for anyone wanting to improve their ability to speak and understand Spanish! I loved the language so much I lived and studied abroad in Guatemala, Colombia, and Spain. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and Literature, and a minor in Spanish for Professionals. I've tutored elementary, middle, high school, and college students in Spanish, and I professionally translate and interpret in my career.

I prioritize a relaxed and fun approach to language learning! We don't learn our first language in a structured, classroom environment. We begin by picking up vocabulary for certain needs and objects, and then string them together to create communication. Thankfully, there are so many patterns in Spanish that once you memorize a couple of key concepts, you can pretty much piece together anything! Studying Spanish for a test might get you a good grade, but if you want to be conversational, the language must come alive for you. I seek to do that through immersive, interactive lessons that solidify what you know, and gradually introduce new topics. If you are taking a Spanish class and need additional tutoring, we will seamlessly incorporate your formal learning into this experience so that you gain confidence as well as accomplish your academic goals!

Details
Lessons outside of 20 miles from where I am located will be charged an additional $4 per lesson to help cover travel expenses. A no-show for a lesson in person or virtual will be charged the full amount for that lesson. A cancellation within 24 hours of the agreed lesson time will be charged the full amount for that lesson. Please notify me before 24 hours if a cancellation or reschedule is needed to avoid being charged for the lesson. There is no fee to cancel or reschedule any lesson more than 24 hours before the scheduled lesson.
