About Matthew
I am a specialist in opera, but teach a range of styles and have students who have gone on to study musical theatre, pop and sing on the West End. As a performer, I have worked for English National Opera, Opera North, Garsington Opera, Iford Arts, Glyndebourne Education, ROH Learning and Participation. I have a growing teaching practice alongside performing and love seeing my students progress. I aim to equip my students with an understanding of how their voice works to help enable them to sing with physical and emotional freedom.

Learn to connect to your breath through singing and express yourself healthily and freely. As a teacher, Matthew has taught privately since 2009 and works with people of all ages, from complete beginners trying to discover their voice to more advanced singers wanting to prepare for specific projects. He is confident he will be able to guide you forward and - most importantly - help you to enjoy singing. Through concentrating on the foundations of singing technique, he works to form a solid basis for healthy singing and encourage singers to understand how their voice works. He is also passionate about linking good vocal technique, with connected, emotion-filled performance, with each influencing and strengthening the other. Matthew believes this approach gives all my pupils the best chance of enjoying a long, healthy and enriching singing life. I offer well-structured lessons that guide students through: - breath connection and control - vocal health and freedom - understanding and using vocal registers - confidence and performance skills

Perfect! An extremely musical, friendly and very positive teacher. Matthew has a great depth of technique in his classical training which I have already found really useful. I thoroughly recommend him if you like singing and want to improve your technique and emotional/creative expression.

I have known Matthew Palmer for over 10 years. In that time I have never witnessed anyone more dedicated to learning the art of singing and the way the voice is produced than him. He has such an excellent extended knowledge of vocal technique and repertoire that I can think of no one better to teach singing. He is a caring and kind teacher who goes above and beyond for his pupils, not only ensuring the lessons are enjoyable but also instilling a good sense of progression, accomplishment and paying attention vocal health which can be sorely overlooked.
