About Uwa

I have been tutoring English on a volunteer basis for approximately three years. Throughout high school, I earned high A’s in Honors and Advanced Placement English courses and received a score of 5 on both the Advanced Placement English Language and Composition and English Literature and Composition exams. In both 11th and 12th grades, I also scored above the 12th-grade literacy level on the HMH reading assessment. I am currently a freshman pursuing a four-year degree as an English major.

I believe that learning should be approached on a case-by-case basis. Before a student’s first lesson, I like to get to know their individual goals (or those of their parents), whether that means building vocabulary, improving essay writing, or strengthening their understanding of a subject. From there, I formulate individual lesson plans around each student’s learning habits, as well as prepare material that aligns with the standard educational curriculum for their age group.

I am also happy to accommodate more immediate needs, such as homework assignments, during any given session, even when a lesson plan has already been prepared. My goal is to make educational goals and needs feel more accessible and attainable by meeting students where they are and helping them build from there.
