About Yiming
I am a post grade 8 musician with a strong background in both performance and theory, currently studying Mathematics at Imperial College London. Having successfully completed all of my own ABRSM exams. I'm read about all kinds of music theory. For example, tuning theory and piano action mechanics. I also have a very good understanding of jazz music theory and pop music theory, being able to transcribe tunes and chords as I hear them. When I passed my grade 8 exam, my examiner said good luck with your future music journey. That was the start of a lot of great experiences for me. I started playing the organ in my local church. I joined my university's orchestra as a percussion player and I joined the Kensington Chamber Choir as a bass singer. I hope to help you get there too.

Techniques and Teaching Methodology I focus on making music theory clear, structured, and practical. I use interactive websites, exercises, and real music to help students not only pass exams but also understand how theory connects to the music they play. Lessons include guided practice with past papers, worksheets, and clear explanations of Grade 5 ABRSM topics such as scales, keys, harmony, cadences, and transposition. Typical Length of a Lesson 1 hour. I also provide follow-up exercises and feedback between lessons so that progress continues outside of our sessions. Qualifications and Experience Grade 8 distinction pianist with strong performance and theory background. Experienced in preparing for and sitting ABRSM exams, so I know exactly what is required to succeed at Grade 5 Theory which I passed in 2020 with 73/75. Currently a mathematics masters student, which means I bring a logical, structured, and problem-solving approach to teaching music theory. Experience performing in ensembles, orchestras, and as a soloist — I connect theory directly to real music-making. Two years of experience in tutoring and I have an enhanced DBS checked certificate. Who the Lessons Are For Students preparing for ABRSM Grade 5 Theory (required for higher practical grades). Beginner to intermediate musicians who want to strengthen their understanding of music theory. Suitable for children (from around age 9+) and adults alike.
