About Sky

I am a London-based cellist and UCL student with ABRSM Grade 8 certification (achieved in 2019), extensive orchestral leadership experience, and a passion for helping others discover the cello. I can teach in both English and Cantonese.

My musical background includes:

- Former Co-principal Cellist, MYOHK Symphony Orchestra (2 years)
- Former Principal Cellist, Senior School Orchestra (5 years)
- Current Reserve Cellist, UCL Symphony Orchestra
- ABRSM Grade 8 Cello, achieved in 2019
- Experience studying and performing advanced repertoire at LTCL diploma level

Alongside performing, I have experience introducing complete beginners to the cello, leading orchestral sectional rehearsals, and coaching fellow musicians on technique, dynamics and musical interpretation.

Having worked with musicians of different abilities, I understand the importance of explaining technical concepts clearly and adapting teaching methods to individual needs.

My aim is to make learning the cello accessible, enjoyable and rewarding while helping students establish the foundations needed for long-term musical development.

About the class

Whether you're picking up the cello for the very first time or returning to the instrument after a break, I offer personalised cello lessons designed to help you build confidence, develop strong technical foundations, and enjoy making music.

I welcome both children and adults, particularly complete beginners with no previous musical experience.

My lessons cover:

- Correct posture, cello positioning and bow hold
- Fundamental bowing and left-hand techniques
- Reading sheet music and understanding rhythm
- Intonation, tone production and musical expression
- Building confidence through beginner-friendly repertoire
- Preparation for ABRSM graded examinations, if desired

I believe that developing good habits from the very beginning is essential for long-term progress. My approach is patient, structured and adapted to each student's individual pace, interests and goals.

Lesson options:
- Online lessons via Zoom
- In-person lessons at students' homes within approximately 20–30 minutes of Bloomsbury, London
- 30, 45 or 60-minute lessons

Students of all ages are welcome, and no prior musical knowledge is required.
