• When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  The LSAT is a gateway from logic to law school. I became interested in logic and arguments during my philosophy undergrad degree, which was completely made of arguments and even a few courses of intensive formal logic study. This was only bolstered by my experience in mock trials. Preparing arguments and cases was the first thing that I ever found myself truly losing myself in besides music. I frequently lost track of time going over statements and evidence to see how I could craft a narrative that would complete my case, and had the privilege of performing and teaching how to prepare and execute a case in mock trials for years across Canada as a result of my success. This made my decision to attend law school clear and obvious, and I started studying for the LSAT shortly after.

• What makes you passionate about your subject?

  I have a love hate relationship with the LSAT. 17 months passed between when I first opened an LSAT prep book to when I took my final test. 9 of those months were spent studying 3 hours a day. I hit plateaus that lasted entire calendar years. This test costed me a lot of stress and time, but I can absolutely say it is the most impressive thing I have ever done. It currently is my proudest achievement, and I anticipate it will be for a long time. Because I feel so much pride in myself and confidence in my systematic approach to the LSAT, and because I have learnt so much about my own abilities and limits as a person and an academic, I love the LSAT. I love how it has changed me and the person I have become as a result.
  
  I sort of view the LSAT the way that a hiker might view a mountain they climbed. During the expedition its difficult, and you're not sure how far you can or should go. But when you make it to the top, the view paired with that rush of achievement makes it all worth it, and whenever you think about that mountain you remember how good it feels to accomplish something truly incredible. I will never forget my LSAT expedition, and I am passionate about helping others with theirs.

• What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  I love watching a student break through a plateau. Every now and then something just clicks, through a walkthrough of a question or an explanation of a concept, and a student just runs with it. They see the connections they need to because they finally truly understand the process. It's exciting for them and its exciting for me, because I remember how difficult it was to break through that same plateau in my own study, and how proud I was when I finally did. This level of connection between my students and me is what makes me a Superprof. I completely understand the exact situation my students are in, and I know exactly how it feels, both to break through a plateau but also to be stuck at one. I tailor all my lessons specifically to the needs of my students according to what they need in this exact moment.

• Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

  Two academics that I try to live up to are the physicist Einstein and the mathematician Feynman. Einstein said if you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it. Feynman embodies this mentality, as in his first lectures he walks his classes through math from counting on fingers to calculus in just a four-page document. The reasoning behind this is because if you can't derive a formula or come up with a system on the day of your tests, then you never really understood the material, you just memorized it. Only when you can derive the formula do you understand it. You have to understand where something comes from.
  
  I try to apply this in my tutoring as well. I try to avoid tricks and shortcuts because even though they are useful for some questions, there is nothing more reliable than understanding how to solve the question the complete way. Understanding how to answer a question requires understanding the argument, its implications, its strengths and its limits, so I teach how to see these quickly and correctly. When you know the right answer because you understand the question before even checking the answer choices, you truly understand the question.

• What are your keys to success?

  Consistently disciplined study is the ONLY way to guarantee your dream score. Some people just understand the test and ace it first try. Others probably get lucky with their guesses. But everyone else needs to remember that the LSAT is a skill that takes time and energy to build.
  
  Consistency is king. Only through repetition can you get used to the pace, the patterns, and the process of the LSAT. A little bit every day goes so much further than an intense study all at once.
  
  Discipline ensures that your study is effective. Taking the time to slow down and practice the right skills, learn from your mistakes with blind review, practice improving on your weaknesses with wrong answer sections, and pushing yourself with time, difficulty, and question targeting drills is the fastest way to iron out the kinks in your approach. It takes more time, but saves you time in the long run.
  
  Last, study! Nothing beats sitting down and doing questions. YouTube and instagram have great tips on time management and question mentality (at least some of the tips are good) but unless you actually put yourself under some pressure and answer questions, you won't improve.
