Work hard in silence. Let success make the noise - Anonymous

For candidates, preparing for a law exam and a career in the legal profession, this should be the mantra. A law examination should not deter you from pursuing your passion in law. If legal rights and justice are things you seek for yourself and others, be sure to prepare well and mix hard work with smart work while taking law exams in India. Like any other competitive exam, it is not going to be a cakewalk. It will test your resilience and smart thinking, more than anything else.

With these law exams in India, you can jump start a career in the legal profession. But choose wisely. Students must be encouraged to take those examinations that have a direct impact on their careers. Not just for the sake of appearing for a competitive examination. It is stressful and students don't need to be put through that over and over again just to get a degree. This is why student counselling both before and after the exam is so critical. Repeated practice and smart work can get you a long way as lawyers.

Decoding CLAT Exam

Common Law and Equity law
Equity and Law go hand in hand | Image Source: Dr Charles Omole

As representatives of the law of a country, lawyers have to uphold the law. It's their job. They have to safeguard both personal interests of the clients and that of the nation, at large. This is precisely why the profession is so demanding and difficult. Apparently, the life of a lawyer may seem very fancy and glamorous, but from the inside, it is actually pretty tough. Starting with appearing for competitive exams like the CLAT, lawyers literally have to take tests all their life. Like the Bar exam to be eligible to practice in a court of law.

CLAT or Common Law Admission Test is a national-level exam taken by candidates who aspire to pursue law as a profession. The exam is taken by thousands of university students and professional lawyers, but only a few make it. The competition is very high and it tests your determination to keep pursuing your dream. Superprof's tried and tested tips to prepare for the CLAT exam will help with your preparation by giving you an inside-out understanding the CLAT syllabus and application process.

Qualifying the CLAT makes you eligible to seek admission in any of the National Law Universities in India. You have to pass your Higher Secondary level to apply for the CLAT and seek admission in any UG or PG courses. Only Indian Nationals are allowed to take the CLAT. In some colleges and universities, there might be reserved seats for foreign nationals too.

All India Law Entrance Test- AILET

If you are aspiring to become a lawyer in India, with an llb or llm degree, you have to clear one of the many law exams in India. All the National law Universities (NLUs) require you to qualify in any one of these law exams in order to apply for admission.

Aspiring law candidates must be aware of all the competitive law exams in India to choose the right one to appear for. AILET or All India Law Entrance Test is conducted by the Delhi NLU and allows candidates to seek admission in undergraduate (llb) or postgraduate (llm) or even a doctorate (PhD) course. This exam is exclusively for candidates seeking admission in NLU Delhi. Even if you have qualified for other law exams like CLAT or SLAT, you still have to clear the AILET to enroll in any course at the NLU Delhi.

AILET, being the exclusive entrance examination for the Delhi NLU makes it a little intimidating as well. But you don't have to worry. Like any other exam, here too you have to answer some questions, get good marks and be well-versed with the application and admission process. A goof place to start the preparations is to understand the eligibility criteria for the different courses- llb or llm or PhD.
