Magnetic field due to an electric current-carrying conductor
Now, we know how the magnetic field behaves in the case of a bar magnet. But, there are may other conductors that change the magnetic field. Let’s take a look at some of those conductors of modern physics.
- Magnetic Field due to current through a straight conductor.
This part includes the right-hand thumb rule. As per this rule, if you hold a straight conductor in your right hand, the folding of your hands around the conductor gives you the direction of the magnetic field lines.
- Magnetic Field due to a Current through a Circular Loop
The direction of the magnetic field varies on the different sections of the circular conductor. And this is also an important point to note that the number of turn of the circular conductor also increases the magnetic field.
- Magnetic Field due to a Current in a Solenoid
A Solenoid is a cylindrical shaped coil conductor made by multiple turns of insulated copper wire. The arrangement is made such that one end of the solenoid behaves as the north pole, and the other end is called the south pole. And in this way, a solenoid also behaves like a bar magnet.
- Force due to a current-carrying conductor
Finally, we are at the discussion of forces. Now, the current-carrying conductor exerts a force on the magnet ket near it. As per newton’s third law of motion, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. And hence, the magnet also exerts a force on the conductor.
One can easily find out about the direction of force using Fleming’s left-hand rule. As per the rule, if you place your index finger, middle finger and thumb mutually perpendicular to each other. The thumb will give you the direction of the motion whereas the index and middle finger will provide you the direction of the field and current respectively.

Centripetal and Centrifugal Force
These two forces are related to each other in a brilliant way. How?
The centripetal force is a force that keeps the moon rotating around the earth. It is a force of attraction that earth applies on the moon and moon rotates around it. In the absence of this force, the moon would follow a linear motion while making a tangent to the surface of the earth.
On the other hand, the centrifugal force is a fictitious force that always acts away from the center of the circle in which the object is rotating. This force acts due to the factor of inertia. Just like when the bus turns right, your body goes left.
