Failure doesn't mean you are a failure it just means you haven't succeeded yet. - Robert H. Schuller

The English language proficiency test, International English Training Examination (IELTS) involves the basic strategies of assessing the reading, writing, speaking and listening proficiency of a candidate. It was enacted in 1989 by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English.

The language assessment exam consists of two variegated modules: Academic and General Training. This is further classified into four sub-tests: listening, reading, writing and speaking. You can enrol on an IELTS coaching course to better your overall band score. You can also go for the online IELTS training offers imparted by experts in this field.

For migrating to an English speaking country as a non-native speaker for higher study or research, you need to achieve a minimum score band. Scoring well in this exam will allow prospective candidates to get a visa easily.

Listed below are some important tips to improve IELTS Academic Writing Test.

  1. Learn time management techniques. Practice the word count daily within the given time duration. This will help you to fast track your pace while writing the exams. Allocate your investment accordingly. The word count for section 2 is more therefore two-thirds of your time and efforts are involved here.
  2. Sift through the requirements of the question vigilantly. Once you are done with the first reading, go for a brisk second reading. Do not directly jump onto writing the answers. Read at a glance, visualise the details and then summarise the text in your own words.
  3. Once you are done with the line-wise perusal, start drafting the overview of it with all might and wit. Understand the plot, the question asked in the question sheet and then go ahead with summarizing and incorporating the information in your own words.
  4. Avoid using very complex words. It is suggested even by experts to not use very typical or heavy vocabulary in your writing tone. Keep the sentences precise, to the point and write in a lucid way. Write something which conveys the true meaning of the question being asked in the paragraph. In case if the complicated or unused words are spelt incorrectly, the marks will be heavily deducted by the evaluator.
  5. Practice, check your progress and improvement of weaker areas. Coaching centres or tutors will provide you with sample practice papers to measure your fluency in the language. Do not skip the doubt session as well, they are equally beneficial to rectify your possible errors committed in each question. This way with little endorsement from the tutors you will excel in the writing test.

You can consider a private tutor who can help you with everything you will need to prepare. Find one of them on Superprof today!
