I have been teaching Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology to Year 4 to Year 13 including NCEA Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, IGCSE, IB and AL students. I have experience teaching IGCSE /AS/ A/L in schools in the UK as well as have been private tutoring. I also tutor undergraduates with understanding modules, assignments, tutorials and help with coursework. I help giving feedback on coursework writings to ensure the correct content and quality. The courses I have helped are modules in Medicine, Biochemistry, Bioscience and Mathematics. I ensure whether the students understand the basic concepts from the topics and do topical past paper questions to strengthen the understanding and to get confident about answering questions. The right way to answer questions will be guided progressively. Then will move on to past papers. Since past paper topical questions are practiced topically, they get a continuous practice on applying their understanding into questions.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in Life Sciences and mathematics, began in high school when I was captivated by the elegance of DNA replication and gene expression. This fascination deepened during my bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering and evolved into a true passion during my master's specialization. Private tutoring started as a way to stay connected to the academic world, but it quickly became something more-it gave me the opportunity to mentor, inspire, and simplify complex ideas for others, which is deeply fulfilling.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach a broad range of subjects, including Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics-from Year 9 up to undergraduate level. I cover all maths- and science-related degrees and work across various international curricula, including Cambridge (IGCSE and A Levels), Edexcel, IB, and NCEA.

What I enjoy most is helping students grasp the underlying logic behind scientific and mathematical principles-whether it's the elegance of calculus, the intricacies of molecular biology, or the predictability of physical laws. I love drawing connections between concepts and real-world applications to make learning both meaningful and memorable.

I'm particularly drawn to topics like gene expression, chemical bonding, and problem-solving in calculus and algebra. While I understand the value of memorization-heavy areas like taxonomy or stoichiometry tables, I find they can feel dry without the right context-so I focus on making them engaging through creative analogies, visual aids, and practical examples.

I also teach Life Sciences, with a focus on Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Biochemistry. I particularly enjoy explaining DNA/RNA structure and function, gene regulation, and CRISPR technology-these topics not only show the beauty of biology but also its potential to revolutionize medicine. While I recognize their importance, I find taxonomy and rote memorization of biological classification systems a bit less engaging, and I try to bring those topics to life with real-world examples and active learning strategies.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely. My earliest and most enduring role model has been my mother, who is a dedicated teacher. Watching her patiently guide students and make a difference in their lives inspired me from a young age. I also come from a family of educators-two of my aunts are mathematics teachers-so teaching has always been a strong and respected presence in my life.

Academically, one of my university professors also had a profound influence on me. Her ability to turn complex scientific concepts into compelling, easy-to-understand narratives showed me the power of great teaching. She not only deepened my love for science but also shaped the way I approach tutoring today-with clarity, empathy, and the goal of sparking curiosity.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor must be empathetic, patient, and adaptable. It's not enough to know the subject; you must understand how each student learns and tailor your approach accordingly. Strong communication, the ability to break down complexity, and encouragement without judgment are essential. Equally important is instilling a growth mindset-helping students believe that they can improve with effort and the right strategies.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my master's program, I was part of a team that conducted gene editing experiments using CRISPR. On one occasion, a small pipetting error led to inconclusive results. It was frustrating, but it reinforced the importance of precision and the humility required in scientific research. I now use that story with students to show that mistakes are part of the learning process-and often the best teachers.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

One major challenge was overcoming the overwhelming volume of content in biology, especially during exam periods. It was easy to feel lost in the details. I learned to develop conceptual maps, analogies, and active recall strategies to manage the information effectively. Now, I help students build similar techniques to reduce stress and improve retention.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a deep passion for teaching, but more specifically, I am particularly drawn to Mathematics and Chemistry. There's something incredibly satisfying about the logical structure and problem-solving nature of maths, and the way Chemistry explains the fundamental interactions of the world around us fascinates me.

I genuinely enjoy the challenge of making these subjects approachable and enjoyable for students, especially those who might initially find them intimidating. Breaking down complex equations, demonstrating real-life chemical applications, and seeing the "aha" moments when students grasp a tough concept-those are the most rewarding parts of teaching for me.

In addition to my subject-specific passion, I'm also enthusiastic about empowering students to build confidence in themselves and to develop independent learning skills they can carry forward in any field.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

What sets me apart is my holistic approach to tutoring. I don't just teach; I mentor. I focus on building confidence, fostering curiosity, and developing personalized learning strategies for every student. My academic background, combined with real-life research experience and a genuine passion for teaching, enables me to deliver lessons that are both engaging and empowering. I'm not just invested in grades-I'm invested in growth.
