I like to construct an attitude geared towards improvement through productive practising. My job is sort of to make it so you don't need me any more, and can even teach yourself. I'd like for my students to love music as much as I do, as in my view it is one of the highest forms of self-expression. I prefer to have a friendly atmosphere in my lessons, and I can be very patient with people. It absolutely does not bother me to wait for you to figure something out, or to not be immediately perfect. Learning takes time.
The main points I try to reinforce are the following:
- practise often, not long. Most of your learning is done while sleeping so doing just five minutes every day is better than one hour a week.
- use a metronome, and play things slower than you need to.
- frustration is a normal part of learning. You shouldn't over-indulge, nor should you avoid it.
I'll help you to build your confidence in your playing so that you can perform in any environment you'd like. If that sounds interesting, why not try a lesson. I offer the first one for free!
