About Sergio

IMPORTANT INFO FOR POTENTIAL STUDENTS: In order to get in touch with different teachers, you'll need to purchase a $50 Student Pass. This is a one-time payment, allowing you to schedule trial lessons with any teacher. Once you've made your selection, you can deactivate the Student Pass and proceed to pay only for the chosen teacher's lessons. ** In case you DON'T want to contact many teachers and just want to ask me about my lessons, you may do it through my YouTube Channel. You can enter by clicking "Watch on YouTube" on the presentation video at the bottom of this page, and don't forget to read the video description! ** About me I've been studying and playing piano since 2002 and teaching since 2010. In those years I focused on the way of learning: first, doing some research and trying to understand how I learned to play, and then looking for the most effective ways to transmit this methodology to my students. For the last 10 or more years I've been teaching in Latin America. You can see my former student's reviews by googling "Opiniones sobre las clases de piano de Sergio Landolfo" (that's "Opinions on Sergio Landolfo's piano lessons")

I believe that a lesson should be entertaining and meaningful for the student, which is why I prefer to work with the songs (or pieces) that he or she chooses. Something we usually do in class is choose a song and adapt it so that the student can play it at a level that matches his or her current ability. You can play any song no matter how difficult it may seem, even if it has no piano in it; the only important thing is to adapt it and, of course, at the beginning that will be my job, but you'll learn how to do it too! I also think it's crucial to understand what you're playing and how you're doing it, so we will analyze the song technically (how to choose the proper fingers, how to coordinate both hands, what are the best hand positions, etc.) and musically (how the melody is composed, why certain notes are combined, etc.).

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I've listened to music ever since I can remember and my parents sent me to piano lessons when I was 10, but I really started to get into it when I truly chose to study piano at the age of 15.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Queen, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles are some of my all-time favorites, but I'm open to enjoying all kinds of music.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Teaching music is a multi-faceted challenge, but one of the most intriguing aspects is helping students master the art of expression through their chosen instrument. It's a complex process that involves developing technical skills and understanding music very deeply.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

In my opinion, one of the most challenging instruments to master is the violin. It's notoriously difficult because it requires an exceptional level of precision just to make it sound good!
  • What are your keys to success?

Effective and efficient practice methods, self-awareness in problem-solving during practice sessions and enjoying the learning process as much as possible.
  • Name two musicians you dream of meeting in your favorite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

It would be Freddie Mercury and Charly García. Their music had a profound impact on my teenage years, and I'd love to express my gratitude for the inspiration they provided.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

One of the most valuable aspects of my time at music school was the lifelong friendships I formed. To this day, I'm still close friends with 4 or 5 of them, and we continue to share our passion for music.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I don't consider myself a "Superprof," but I try to be the best music educator I can be. One of the essential aspects of my teaching philosophy is to focus on my students' goals and interests. I work with songs they like, follow their curiosity, and always inquire if they have any specific desires in their musical journey. After all, there's no point in teaching something a student isn't interested in.
