An article from BBC shows a consistent year-on-year increase in the number of crimes, with the highest ever recorded in 2021.
Crimes against women in India have risen by 26.35% over the past six years, with the majority of cases involving kidnappings, abductions, rapes, domestic violence, dowry deaths, and cyber crimes.
India has been dubbed the "rape capital of the world" due to the high number of reported rapes, although many other countries have similar or higher numbers. The issue is exacerbated by the stigma and poor treatment of victims by society, police, and the judiciary.
Kidnappings and abductions of women have increased by 14% since 2016, with a significant portion being related to forced marriages.
Domestic violence against women has consistently been the most reported violent crime, with a 27% increase in such cases since 2016.
Dowry-related deaths, despite being illegal, continue to be a major problem, with an average of one bride being killed every 77 minutes in 2021.

I have been treated pathetic all my life by my mother and my family, My parents kept me away from the basic necessities of life, my basic education, each and everything I have just been compromising, they physically and mentally abuse me and now on 22nd Jan 2024 I got a job for which I had to leave my home forever, I went to the nearest police station to my ofc on the same day where after a lot of debate the police asked me to stay at my sisters home if I didn’t wanna stay with my parents, I stay at my sisters home for a month where I realized I was making a mistake staying there and hence decided to live in a hostel, on 1st March 2024 I had booked my hostel room, and I clearly stated my brother in law that I wasn’t returning back home, he somehow convinced me to just come back home for a day to have a talk n next day he would himself drop me to the hostel but on the same night when I came home after I went to the bed all my 3 siblings along with my brother in law jumped over me forcefully pushed in sleeping pills into my throat, all of them hit me on my head twisted my hand, closed my mouth tight, tied my hands, dumped me into the car, tied my legs stuffed towel into my mouth and very brutally drove to my native haryana, next day morning around 7:30 they opened my hands and legs and for my good luck at the toll gate of Maharashtra the traffic police stopped our car for general inspection, I shouted towards the police for help and from there I somehow came to the police station in Dharashiv, I had rigidly told the police I have life threat from them and I want to file an FIR against them yet no action was taken and the cops were instead trying to convince me for returning back with them, since I was rigid they just took a written complaint and no action is still taken on my family, I am now in a shelter home by the police itself and my family is opening waiting for me to step out of this place and they can have my chapter closed……. I want to get out of this place safely and I want justice for myself, my family after doing all the wrong is still openly roaming on the streets and I am struggling in a place which is none hygienic, sleeping on floor, the toilets are over flowing.
Please advice what action can I take right now.

Hi, I have recently been married in oct 2023. And in the initial 3 months of marriage I found out my husband being alcoholic, abuse and cheating on me . He is a womenizer. I came back at my maiden home and here since last 2 months . Me and family tried reaching them and asking them to sit along and end this marriage as I found my husband and his mother both are having a bad character people.
