All You Need to Know about JNU Admission

Jawaharlal Nehru University is among the highest-ranked universities in India and thus thousands of students appear in the JNU admission test every year. JNU conducts an entrance test for all the applicants and based on the performance in the admission test, JNU publishes a merit list. The process of JNU admission is entirely online.

JNU has multiple exam centers throughout India. You can opt for the nearest or the most convenient test center where an online exam will be held. This is widely recognized as Computer Based Test (CBT). Except for the Ph.D. program, candidates need not appear for an entrance viva voce exam. Important JNU News 2022

Students wait anxiously for various updates from JNU in terms of their academic careers. As per JNU news 2022, the university is running multiple scholarship courses to empower students with more confidence. Some of these scholarships are discussed below-

  • Merit-cum-means Scholarship: This scholarship is granted to students whose parents' or guardian's annual income is below INR 2.5 lakhs.
  • Ford Foundation Scholarship: A limited number of Ford Foundation scholarships are offered for students enrolled in MA. The monthly stipend will be INR 700 and will be given only based on merit.
  • Okita Memorial Fellowship: This grant is awarded to deserving Indian students enrolling in the second year of their M.Phil or MA programs. Selected students will get two scholarships worth INR 5000 per month each, with a yearly contingency of INR 10,000.
  • G Parthasarathi Endowment Fellowship: For a year, students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Tribes are paid INR 1000 each month. At the University, there are a total of four such scholarships available.
  • Tendulkar Scholarship: This is given to two students from different Centres of the School of Social Science each year for a term of two years. The monthly scholarship is worth INR 400.

A Comprehensive Guide to JNU Eligibility

JNU follows a strict guideline of eligibility criteria to carry forward the legacy of fifty years. For each school or discipline, JNU has set separate eligibility criteria. JNU eligibility criteria differ from program to program i.e. graduation has a different guideline in terms of eligibility to that of post-graduation or Ph.D.

Since JNU promotes education for all, it has a significant seat reservation for the backward classes. The cut-off marks or JNU eligibility for SC/ ST/ OBC and PwD are different from that of the general caste. Refer to the following list for a detailed overview of JNU eligibility.

JNU Undergraduate Eligibility Criteria

  • A minimum of 45% in the Senior School Certificate (10+2) or comparable test from a recognized Board/University. Candidates who will be taking the Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an equivalent test soon are eligible to apply.
  • Madrasas issue Alimiah certificates with at least 45% marks if the candidate has completed the English language at the Senior Secondary level from a recognized Board or University or a three-year course by Darul-Uloom Deoband.

These are the prerequisites to apply for JNU undergraduate courses. All candidates must appear in the written admission test once the prerequisites are met. JNU publishes two merit lists (first merit list and second merit list) as the final stage of the selection process.

JNU Postgraduate Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must appear in the entrance exam conducted by JNU that has a weightage of 70 marks.
  • General candidates should score at least 25% to clear the exam.
  • There is a relaxation for the SC/ ST and OBC students. SC/ ST and PwD candidates are expected to score at least 15% and the OBC candidates are expected to score at least 22.5 % in the admission test for further consideration.
