About Nathan James
I hold two degrees in voice, a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Central Michigan University, and a Master's in Sacred Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance from the University of Notre Dame. I've sung opera, oratorio, music theater, folk and cabaret music. I live in Chicago and have been here for 5 years performing and teaching and writing my own music. I look forward to meeting you!

No matter the age or ability of a student, I meet them where they are at. I think that people should have fun when learning music and should sing what they enjoy the most, no matter the style or genre.
In lessons with me we would start with vocal exercises to warm up the instrument and then dive right into the repertoire that you'd enjoy singing. Since music is such an emotional art form, and since singing is particularly vulnerable, I work hard at creating a safe place for one to sing comfortably, I listen and most importantly, I love to create an environment full of laughter.
Whether you are a beginner, or are working towards a degree, or are just looking to improve on the skills you already have, I gladly welcome all!

Perfect! Nathan is a great vocal coach for people looking to improve their singing while playing an instrument. They meet you where you are in your experience, and build from there. They have a lot of techniques and excercises to approach all the important elements of singing from all different directions. For people with deep voices, they can help you find and become comfortable with that higher range that lets you cut through the mix and be heard.
