About Stela

Hello everyone! A med student here ready to help you diving in one of the most musical languages of the world. I work with "LaleTürkçe" books as I find them the easiest ones among Turkish books. A typical lesson starts by checking homework and discussing uncertainties. After this we get on with the new topic. When I finish the explanation, we work on examples I prepare before the lecture and then we work on book's exercises. The aim of learning a new language is to speak, so we spend many minutes practising new vocabulary. According to me, associating lectures with songs, photos and short stories makes everything easier to remember. I love pop quizzes in the last minutes :) Preferably: A1-A2-B1 level

I use "Lale Türkçe" books because I find them the easiest among Turkish language books. These books offer a clear and structured approach to learning Turkish, making them ideal for students at various levels. A typical lesson with these books starts by checking homework and addressing any uncertainties that may have arisen. This initial review helps reinforce previously learned material and ensures that any confusion is cleared up before moving forward. After the homework review, we transition to the new topic of the day. I usually begin with a detailed explanation of the new concepts, ensuring that students understand the foundational aspects. Once the explanation is complete, we work on examples that I have prepared beforehand. These examples are designed to illustrate the new material in a practical context, helping students to grasp the concepts more effectively. Following the examples, we move on to the exercises provided in the book. These exercises reinforce the lesson and give students the opportunity to practise what they have learned. I believe that the goal of learning a new language is to be able to speak it fluently, so we dedicate a significant portion of our time to practising new vocabulary and speaking exercises. This practical approach helps students build confidence in their speaking abilities. According to me, associating lectures with songs, photos and short stories makes everything easier to remember. I love pop quizzes in the last minutes :) Preferably: A1-A2-B1 level

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I learned Turkish because of an incredibly inspiring Turkish teacher I had during my high school years. His passion for the language was truly contagious! He not only taught us the mechanics of Turkish but also immersed us in the rich culture, history, and literature of Turkey. This holistic approach sparked my own love for the language.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

My two Turkish teachers are my emblematic representatives of Turkish language. They made the language very fun and easy and inspired me to teach this beautiful language to other people too.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I love the musicality of the language, how you can not put two vowels or two consonants together.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking another language matters to me immensely because it opens up a whole new world of opportunities and perspectives. It's not just about communication; it's about connecting with people on a deeper level and understanding different ways of thinking and living. In our increasingly globalized world, being multilingual is a valuable skill in the job market. It can lead to better career prospects and open doors to international opportunities. For me, each new language I learn feels like gaining a new pair of eyes to see the world. It's a journey of continuous discovery, not just about words and grammar, but about people, cultures, and ultimately, about myself.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main challenge in learning Turkish is often its agglutinative structure, where suffixes are added to words to change their meaning or function. This can result in very long words that might seem daunting to beginners. Another difficulty is the concept of vowel harmony, which is crucial for proper pronunciation and grammar. However, consistent practice with Turkish media, such as TV shows, music, and podcasts, can significantly help overcome these challenges.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

"Güldür güldür" is my fav Turkish show, it is so funny.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Grammar rules and books alone are never sufficient to acquire a language. It is crucial to hear a language in its native environment and observe how people use it in order to fully understand that culture and language. Therefore, my advise for Turkish language learners would be to visit Turkey. They will get the opportunity to learn Turkish and experience Turkish culture. Traveling to the center of the language you are learning is therefore always useful and helpful.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

What makes me a Superprof in Turkish is my passion for the language and culture, combined with my understanding of the challenges learners face. I use a variety of methods, including music, films, and literature, to make learning engaging and contextual. I also draw parallels between Turkish and other languages my students might know, making grammar concepts more relatable. My approach is to create a fun, immersive learning environment that goes beyond just vocabulary and grammar, incorporating cultural insights and practical usage. I believe in tailoring my teaching style to each student's needs and learning pace, ensuring they not only learn the language but fall in love with it too.
