About Arti

Hi, My name is Arti. I was recently nominated for an award in the South Asian Food Category by Be Inclusive Hospitality. I am a freelance Chef, Cookery Tutor and Private Chef. I have worked full-time at the School Of Wok, one of Europe's only Award Winning Asian and Oriental Cookery Schools. Before that I taught Parent and Children's Cookery Classes in West London for a company called 'Chefs in the Mix.' I am also a Graduate of the Leiths School of Food and Wine and I have a 'Level 3 Food Hygiene and Safety in Catering certificate,' a 'Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety in Catering certificate,' as well as a 'Food Allergen Awareness Certificate.' I have also worked at the Ivy restaurant and assisted in teaching apprentice chefs at the Wagamama chain of restaurants along with a company called Lifetime training (the UK's leading apprenticeship training provider). I have worked for Gully Indian street food which is an award winning producer of Indian Food. And I have also taught Indian, Thai, Indo-Chinese, Moroccan, Indian Street food and European food at the Lyric Hammersmith. I have also worked at chickchick crew in Oxford Circus and Canary Wharf. I have also taught cookery at the Richmond and Hillcroft Adult education college. Furthermore, I currently teach year 8, 9 and 10 students cookery at the Channing School for girls in London and I also teach their sixth form students recipes that will help them when they move on to University. I can impart a knowledge of Indian Spices and Chinese and Thai Ingredients. I also cook meals for the health conscious. I also teach children how to cook in a fun and educational way with stories and I have an enhanced DBS certificate. Please do feel free to contact me if:
1. You are a complete beginner and want to learn how to cook or indeed if you are a good cook and would like to learn about Pakistani, Indian, South East Asian, all kinds of curries like Thai curries, Home comfort foods like Mac and Cheese and fish pie. So your very own chef preparing food for you to heat up when you come home. They can be meals for the health conscious also. No need to order from Gousto!!
5. I am happy to be contacted for teaching work if you are the head of a cookery school also. Please note my rates to teach a class of more than two people in a cookery school environment is different to what is advertised here and it is something we can discuss.
6. As a consultant chef, I can share my knowledge with cookery schools and small restaurants or street food outlets. From menu design to offering specialist training to staff, I can create bespoke packages based on the clients needs. I usually teach three or four dishes to pupils in a three hour lesson depending on your skill level. My rates for in-person lessons are for up to two people and I can give you a price list for more than two pupils. I send you an ingredients list in advance for you to buy either online or at your local supermarket. If you do need me to buy ingredients in advance for you, I charge a bit more for that and I am happy to discuss that. I can also teach a 2 hour in person cookery class with 2 dishes on the menu. My aim is to fill you with confidence and a joy in your cooking. I currently teach in peoples homes or a venue chosen by you and I bring you the printed recipes so you can make the dishes again and again. I also teach cookery lessons on Zoom and Zoom lessons usually last for 2 hours. My rate for the Zoom cookery lesson is per household and we usually learn 2 dishes for an online lesson. Happy to teach groups whether it is a birthday party, corporate events or family occasion. Please contact me for a quote for such events. Thanks

  • When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I started cooking when I was 4 years old. My mother was a brilliant cookery teacher. She taught me how to make onion bhajis and dal at a very young age, for instance. So I grew up watching her cook and tasting her food from India, China, Pakistan, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. So food was always a huge love of my life. Many years ago I trained at the Leiths School of food and wine and fell in love again with food and cooking. I have not looked back since. And I work teaching other chefs now.
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

I love Asma Khan's cooking as well as Madhur Jaffrey and Ainsley Harriot.
  • What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

Creativity, passion and hard work are a hallmark of a great chef. And a willingness to be on your feet for long hours at times. The rewards are amazing also as it is wonderful to hear others say that they enjoyed the food I cooked for them.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

    Practice, Practice and more practice.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

I love cooking, when I cook it centres me and allows me to forget everything else. Cooking is wonderfully mindful thing to do it helps me to be creative and focused. It comes naturally to me.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I assist in teaching Wagamama chef apprentices and I really enjoy doing that. I am also proud of the work I do for clients as a private chef. I go to their homes and cook them weekly meals that they can enjoy.
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Yes, I have a student who is 14 years old, we met through superprof and she has a natural ability as well as the willingness to try new things.
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

I get a great deal of Joy from passing on my cookery skills to others especially those that hardly cook and suddenly find they are really good at it. That gives me a buzz.
