We all need the right playlist at the right time, the songs that resonate with how we’re feeling or songs that can pick us up. Rock, rap, blues, funk, folk, disco, etc. All musical styles can be useful in our daily lives. Listening to a song might seem unimportant, but it can change our mood, remind us something in the past, or bring up fond memories whether it’s a wistful ballad or the latest pop-rock banger. Furthermore, singing along can maximise the effects. With that in mind, here are some of Superprof’s favourite songs to change how you feel or improve your mood. There’s something for all tastes so make sure that you sing at the top of your voice!
Build Confidence Through Song
Sometimes, our self-confidence can take a knock, especially after setbacks. In some cases, we can feel like we don’t fit in or aren’t getting things right. Is it our fault? Usually not! It’s a good idea to listen to inspirational music in moments like these!
Katy Perry - Roar
In 2013, Katy Perry sang Roar, a mainstream and commercial anthem for standing up tall. In this chart-topping song, the singer describes herself as an animal who’s roaring to show that she’s a champion:
"I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, Dancing through the fire, 'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar, Louder, louder than a lion, 'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar.”
It's a good song to give you a boost and start your day off right. There’s nothing better than a bit of Katy Perry or Lady Gaga in the morning to start your day off right!
Ava Max - Who’s Laughing Now
Ava Max gained mainstream popularity with her single Sweet but Psycho. Now, with several hits under her belt, the singer has quickly become a household name due to her sparkling self-affirming dance-electro-pop. The 2020 single Who’s Laughing Now invites us to feel powerful. It describes a woman under the influence of a toxic person who’s rhetorically asking “Who’s laughing now?” as a sign of victory. It’s a great song for feeling strong and independent.
“Don't ya know that I'm stronger? Don't ya see me in all black? Don't ya cry like a baby? Ha-ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha, Who's laughing now?”
Ava Max’s first album also included some excellent empowering tunes like Salt, Kings & Queens, and Alone Pt. II with Alan Walker. These tunes are bound to get you moving, dancing, and feeling more confident.
2NE1 - I Am the Best
Those with a fondness for K-pop (Korean pop), the girl group 2NE1 were active from 2009 to 2016. Their songs are some of the most popular of the genre along with groups like Big Bang and SHINee. Their 2011 song I Am the Best is a call-to-action for self-confidence. The hook “Naega Jeil Jal Naga” means “I am the best” and you can see from the music video that they genuinely believe it. Sing the words loud and proud for a bit of motivation! Check out more songs to give you confidence.
