German is a great language to learn and it’s only going to get more important in the future. Many employers favor applicants with foreign language skills and the German language is one everyone who works with Europeans should be learning.

Goethe Institute: Indien / Max Mueller Bhavan
The Goethe Institut is based out of Munich but also offers many different online courses, from A1 to C2 and including exam preparation.
There are also many Goethe Institut centers around India in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune.
History and Role
Created in 1925, the Goethe Institut is a non-profit organisation with the main goal of promoting German culture and language around the world.
The Goethe Institut is also home to several German language tests and you can take different types of courses (academic and professional courses) in order to improve your German vocabulary and level.
The Goethe Institut’s Online Language Courses
There are plenty of different courses offered by the Goethe Institut for learning German quickly. Depending on your level and location, you can take lessons on your computer, in a lecture hall, or a mix of both!
Beginners can take online German A1 level courses for about INR24,000. In-person classes are about INR26,000.
Children 11-15 years old can take an online course that lasts 20 weeks, with 4 hours of lessons per week, and runs during their normal school year. This course is about INR56,000.
The intensive class is INR72,000 for 75 lessons over 15 days.

If you’re preparing for a particular German exam, you can also take courses to get ready for it at the Goethe Institut. For example, you can prepare for the TestDaF. However, you should remember that the cost of taking the exams isn’t usually included in the price of preparatory courses.

Language Trips with the Goethe Institut
For more immersive learning, the Institut offers 2-3 week courses in cities like Berlin and Dresden. You’ll learn German first-hand and be able to apply your knowledge in your everyday life in Germany! The Institut helps you find accommodation, for example at a hotel or with a host family.
A 3-week course costs about INR88,000, but keep in mind that this cost doesn’t include airfare, meals, or accommodations.
Symbiosis Institute of Foreign and Indian Languages
History and Role
The Symbiosis Institute is part of a network of 48 academic institutions and hosts over 34,000 Indian and foreign students. It is so well-run that the Indian government granted the Institution “Deemed to be University” status in 2002.
There are locations in Pune, Nashik, and Kolhapur in Maharashtra and campuses outside Maharashtra at NOIDA, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
In-Person Courses
SIFIL offers German courses from A1 through B2, with the intention of preparing students for studying in Germany. The Institute also believes in spreading cultural awareness and global sensitivity.
Fees range from INR9,500 to INR14,400, not including book and registration fees.

The Humboldt Institut
The Humboldt Institute also has several centers across Germany offering a huge variety of different courses including part-time courses, one-on-one intensive courses, and TestDaF preparation courses.
Study Abroad
These German lessons can be part of a 2-week course or last much longer. You can take courses that include accommodation if needed. However, you can also choose to live or study at University in Germany while taking courses at Humboldt, where you can provide your own accommodation.
The Institute offers several different options for studying in person, including intensive studies for those who want to travel to the area for the sole purpose of learning German, and part-time courses for anyone who already works or studies elsewhere.
Online Courses
The Institute also offers online courses that are taught live, in a group or individual setting. There are two different types of courses, one for adults 18+, and one for teens.
Education First
Take a German class abroad in Berlin or Munich with Education First’s study abroad program. There are a variety of trip lengths to choose from, so you can pick whichever suits your schedule and budget best! An intensive German-only course can range between 1 and 24 weeks. Co-studying at university with part-time Education First classes can be 6, 9, or 11 months long.
They offer programs for people ages 10 and up, including school and university-oriented programs, and business and corporate education.
This solution is obviously more costly than some of the others but it does include intensive German lessons in the morning and trips around town in the afternoon.

Thanks to the Internet, you can now get German lessons online.
There are plenty of sites to learn languages and German is no exception. You can study German phrases and expressions on your phone, too.
You can also keep up to date with your progress. You’ll find german lessons, German grammar resources, interactive activities, online dictionaries, and more.

Babbel is one of the most popular language-learning references online. You can choose a subscription that works for you and grants you access to a number of different services for around £5 a month.
The app is well-known and available for both smartphones and tablets and you can use it to get in touch with other German learners. The lessons are broken down into themes like “traveling”, “introducing yourself”, etc.
Superprof
Superprof pairs you with a tutor who meets your individual needs like availability, expertise, and cost. You can learn individualized lessons from an experienced German tutor, who can ensure that you are able to progress well.
Altissia
Altissia is an online language learning platform that is a bit more expensive (from around £17 per month). However, it does offer a more personalised approach.
