About Samantha
Hi all!
Welcome to the Sami Kennett Vocal Studio! It means so much to know you are putting your trust into me to help you reach your vocal goals. I am simply THRILLED to say the least. I used to do coaching for students here and there but it was never something I committed fully to. Coming into the later half of my 20s now, I’ve decided to use my MT degree and my many years of classical and musical theatre training to not only help others but also be able to support myself. I’m so excited to see where this can go and how I can build this studio into something that serves my students in the best ways possible. Here’s a bit about me and my background.
I grew up in Tampa, FL where I began getting classical voice training at the age of 12. I bopped around to a few different voice teachers through my younger years, but easily fell into the musical theatre scene when I got to high school. The first show I ever did was RENT. Once junior year came I had to decide if I wanted to study vocal performance or Musical Theatre in college. I decided on Kent State University (why exactly did I pick KSU over other schools? I actually have no idea lol but I’m thankful for what I learned at school and what I took with me into the real world). Once I graduated, I signed with my first agent and moved to NYC! I really struggled for a few years, barely getting any auditions and feeling hopeless…so I decided to leave my agent! And then a month later I met Natalie Weiss, sang for her, and in one single meeting she offered me the chance to meet with her manager and also to work with the prolific Kooman & Dimond on an upcoming recording studio project. This moment felt straight out of a movie. I had a call with her manager and signed with her the next day. I then immediately started getting auditions left and right and soon booked the role of Female Lead Swing on the 2024 LITTLE WOMEN National Tour. This meant that I had to cover every SINGLE female character in the show so…a lot of work haha. But I learned so much. Once I got back to NYC I booked another recording gig with the Executive Music Producer of WICKED (bway and the movie), SMASH (Bway and the series), FROZEN (Bway and the movie), and much more. A group of us recorded the whole FROZEN Musical with Stephen Oremus at Power Station. This will be the new MTI licensing recording for FROZEN for the next 25 years! After that I starred as Jill in the New Musical JILTED written by Lauryn Gaffney (BIG SHOT Off Bway). We performed for one night at 54 below and it was INCREDIBLE. Keep a look out for this show, they have a great future ahead. And now I am living with my fiancé Albert Nelthropp who is also an actor (look out in a year for us opening a duo acting/singing studio), planning out wedding, and getting ready to embark this fall on the DISENCHANTED Nat’ Tour as their leading Lady Snow White! I’m still young and I have so much to learn about myself and my own voice, but I can see that what I am doing is working for me, and I would like to share my tips, tricks, and techniques with those who want them! I always wished I had someone in the MT world to look to for vocal help. I was always taught by classical teachers who didn’t specialize in belting, so belting for me was self taught up until I got to NYC. My vocal coach now is the incredible Andrea Green who is the apprentice of the “Vocal Coach of the Stars” Joan Lader and she has really helped me maintain a healthy and strong voice for a long term career. PHEW OKAY I’M DONE. That was a lot. Apologies. But I feel like it’s important for you to know where I’m at and the professional experience I have (: And that’s me!
“Sami is an incredible performer. The first time I ever heard her voice, I was absolutely blown away. She has such a special gift!” -Natalie Weiss

HOW MY STUDIO WILL WORK:
-I do both remote and in person lessons. When you book your session it will have you pick between “In person” at my apartment or over a FaceTime call. I prefer in person if you can but I am also completely fine with online. I live in Astoria, NY. If you are in Manhattan it only takes 20-30 minutes from Times Square to get to me via the NRW Subway.
-If you are coming in person do be advised that we have a kitten. If you are allergic to cats, then it would be best for you to do remote instead.
-If you are a minor and coming in person with a parent/guardian, I have a living room where your parent/guardian can sit while we do the lesson/coaching in the back studio. Unless they want to sit in on the lesson and you are comfortable with that. Then they can be in the studio with us, though it is a small room (keep in mind). If your parent/guardian does not want to be in the apartment during the lesson/coaching, there are a bunch of coffee shops around my area for them to sit at.
-My fiancé Albert may be in and out of the apartment during the lesson, but he won't come into the studio unless he needs to grab something.
-I am not a piano player. Some teachers are but I am definitely not. I use the piano for warmups but that is it. I am strictly a singer/actress. See below for what to bring to your lesson in terms of accompaniment/sheet music.
-Have patience with yourself. You are not going to come out of your first lesson having mastered your voice. I have been learning for 16 years and still haven't mastered mine. These things take time. Have grace with yourself, we will get there!
-If you can, please send me a message introducing yourself! I would love to hear from you all and see what you are looking for, if you have specific goals, and if you have very specific availability that I should keep in mind. Can’t wait!!!!
STRUCTURE OF LESSON:
-1st we chat! Could be for a little while, could be for a good chunk of the lesson! Some of the best lessons I ever had were one's where my teacher and I talked about my goals and how the voice works.
-Then we warm up! This is a good habit to get into (one that I struggle with myself as a singer) and it’s a great way for me to gauge how your voice is feeling, where your range is at, where the struggle spots are, and where the sweet spot of your voice is. Once I understand your voice a little better we use warmups to start building your technique.
-and finally (drum roll) WE WORK MATERIALLLLL! Woohoooo!!!
WHAT TO BRING:
-sheet music for songs you want to work on (to refer to lyrics/dynamics and such)
• Sheet music can be found on (concealed information) for a small price or for free in this database (but only limited options):
(concealed information)
• You can also ask me if you can't find it anywhere and I can ask around to my many resources
-piano track or accompaniment for those specific songs (if you cannot find this on your own, ask me and I will point you in the right direction)
-journal and pen (optional if you want to take notes)
-water bottle with room temp water (don’t drink ice cold or hot water right before or during your session)
-Phone to record our lessons (voice memo app)

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I recommend Samantha as a voice and acting coach because have worked with her in the past, she as an actor while I was her stage manager. She has the highest level of professionalism, has an amazing work ethic, and a natural teacher.
I couldn’t think of anyone better to get voice lessons from! Sami is knowledgeable, talented, and patient. You truly could not go wrong having her as your teacher!
Sami is such a welcoming and understanding presence; and her vocals are great! She really knows how to teach, and you can tell her passion for singing.
First off, Sami is one of the sweetest, kindest, and most patient people you will ever meet! I am an old friend - Sami and I were in high school theater together for years. I have had the privilege to witness Sami’s progress and growth as an artist.
She is very considerate of people’s time, exercising respect in both formal and informal interactions. She is very non-judgmental (despite the many voice-cracks I’ve experienced while singing)! Lastly, Sami’s dedication to the arts is obvious, as well as her desire to continuously better herself as an artist. 10/10 I recommend.View more recommendations
