About Shikha

I don’t think we share our knowledge in our blogs, books, and articles to show our brilliance or our enlightenment. The more you read and the more you learn from other people, you start to realize how important it is to apply and share what you know. We’re not trying to push our life values onto you, or say that we’re living the “right” way.

I suppose the answer to this question will be perspective based.

Currently, I can think of 3 perspectives of the student:

A student who wants a degree to get a good job.
A student who aims at higher studies.
A student who has still not decided his career path.
I will now explain each perspective in detail.

Many students come from economically weaker backgrounds whose parents have invested all of their savings for their child's education and the child is responsible to support the family after they get graduated. Their only target is those colleges that are in their range according to their academic score, that are having best placements. They are ready to compromise on facilities and amenities given by the college such as extracurricular activities, sports, parties, infrastructure etc. Their sole focus is a good academic score and a more than decent placement, so they can support their families after graduation.
Then there come those students who have economical support from their home and are determined to create a career in academics. While selecting a college for admission, their criteria are only a good pool of teachers, exposure to various educational activities and everything else that is concerned with academics. Recreational activities such as sports, events etc. comes as a second priority to them. During the graduation phase, they start preparing for future endeavours such as various exams they need to give for their post-graduate degree. Majority of them, and not all, remain focused from the first year to the last year of their graduation and finally achieve what they aimed for.
The third category of the perspective of student itself has many categories. They don't know what are their interests, what is their aim in life and what they are skilled in. They take up a course either because of family pressure, or because of all their friends and doing the course, or someone's suggestion. They are generally mediocre in studies and get into a mediocre college pursuing a course that they are not sure whether they want to or not. Their only expectation is from the college is they have various sports, recreational activities, events and a whole lot of fun in college life. They remain mediocre throughout the course and get an average placement at last, or start preparing for some government exams or higher studies exams, again getting influenced by factors stated above. Some of them, very few from the lot, achieve their consciousness and design a path for their future, either in the same field in which the course they are pursuing or changing the domain completely. But, these are very few, the majority of them take another 3-5 years to get this and the leftovers continue the same for their whole life.
If you are a student, I hope that I have helped you to categorize yourself to a perspective and choose the college accordingly.
