  • When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I began practicing art at a young age, nurturing my interest in drawing realistic art. This innate connection to art, combined with my inherently patient nature, allowed me to delve deeply into the intricate details and nuances of the subjects I portrayed. As I grew older, my passion for art evolved from a childhood hobby into a dedicated pursuit of realism in portraiture, emphasising the significance of capturing every subtle expression and facet of the human form. My patient disposition naturally guided me to perfecting this intricate craft over the years, and now I am thrilled to share this journey with aspiring artists of all skill levels and ages through my tutoring.
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

I find inspiration in the works of artists such as Canaletto, Kelvin Okafor and Patricia Otero.

The grandeur of Canaletto's classic paintings, with their intricate cityscapes and attention to architectural detail, resonates with my aspiration for precision in portraiture. His ability to infuse life into static scenes through meticulous brushwork and perspective mastery has been a profound influence on my approach.

Shifting gears to the contemporary sphere, Kelvin Okafor's hyperrealism leaves me awestruck. His meticulous technique and dedication to capturing the soul within the subject's eyes resonate deeply with my commitment to creating emotive and lifelike portraits.

Finally, the work of Patricia Otero, a pet portrait artist, has also left an indelible mark on me. Her ability to capture the unique personalities of animals through portraiture is what inspired me to venture into creating my own soft pastel animal art.

These diverse influences, ranging from Canaletto's timeless classics to Kelvin Okafor's contemporary hyperrealism and Patricia Otero's heartfelt pet portraits, collectively shape my artistic perspective, and enhance the guidance I extend to my students on their artistic journeys.
  • What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

Success in art, particularly in realistic portraiture, requires a fusion of both technical skill and personal attributes. Technical proficiency is the cornerstone - an understanding of light, shadow and value allows an artist to breathe life into their creations. However, it's the combination of skill with qualities like patience, attention to detail, and a drive to improve that truly sets apart an accomplished artist.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Staying focused on creative projects involves setting clear goals, breaking them down into manageable steps, and maintaining a consistent practice schedule. Embrace mistakes as opportunities to learn and improve, rather than obstacles.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

My passion for creating realistic portraits is a blend of precision and emotion. The process of meticulously observing and replicating subtle details brings a sense of fulfilment and tranquility. Witnessing the transformation in my students as they develop their skills evokes a strong sense of pride and accomplishment.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I take immense pride in not only my own artistic journey and growth but also in the growth of my students. Watching them progress from hesitant beginners to confident artists is incredibly rewarding.
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Absolutely. There have been instances where students who initially doubted their abilities made astonishing progress. Witnessing them grasp complex concepts quickly and execute intricate techniques with confidence is both surprising and gratifying. It highlights the potential within each individual when given the right guidance and encouragement.
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

The secret to being a successful Superprof lies in creating a comfortable and supportive learning environment. Tailor your teaching approach to the unique needs of each student, fostering a sense of partnership in their artistic journey. Listen attentively, provide constructive feedback, and celebrate their successes. The combination of expertise, passion, and genuine care for your students' progress sets the stage for a rewarding teaching experience.
