• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I have been passionate about Economics since primary school, and I was always the top performer in my class. As a result, many of my fellow students would come and ask me for help with their homework, a practice that continued through my undergraduate degree. While starting my Ph.D., I was offered a teaching opportunity, and that is when I realized that teaching is something that I love. The more I got to teach, the deeper my understanding of various economics and finance topics became, and the more my interest grew in these subjects. Apart from teaching, my interest in economics and finance materialized when I joined the financial sector, where I got the opportunity to see the practical application of all the subjects I was teaching. This experience strengthened my belief that hard work with the appropriate guidance can
  help an individual achieve his aims. Thus, I have now committed my life to helping others fulfill their dreams and aspirations.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  Over the past 15 years, I have been helping more than 200 students with their studies in Economics, Finance, Statistics, and other Business-related subjects, primarily at the university level. Moreover, I have extensive experience in thesis writing and assignment supervision, research guidance, and academic writing. As a university lecturer, I primarily taught Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Finance, and Industrial Economics to undergraduate students and International Business and Finance to Postgraduate students.
  
  Regarding Finance, I have focused on: Corporate Finance, Time Value of Money, Bond Valuation, Stock Valuation, Advanced Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Derivatives, Decision Making and Simulation, and CFA Level 1. Every summer, I help students with their resits, provide tutoring for different subjects not offered by the school or university (such as Applied Finance, Stata courses, and Day Trading) and help them deal with any other extenuating circumstances they might face. Regarding accounting, I am in a position to teach courses related to financial and managerial accounting at various levels of study. Concerning Statistics and Statistical Modelling, I have in-depth knowledge in areas such as Regression with Cross-Sectional Data, Logistic Regression, Panel Data, Variable Instrumental estimation, Time Series, Econometrics, Financial Econometrics, Parametric/Non-Parametric Test, Analysis of Variance, Multivariate Analysis, Statistical Hypothesis Testing, Fundamentals of Probability, and Probability Theory. I also teach A-level economics and business across all major exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and iGCSE.
  
  Lastly, I help students with their job applications and interviews, primarily those interested in graduate programmes within the banking and consulting industries.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  I am fortunate to have had several inspiring teachers, especially at Oxford and Cambridge. They instilled a profound love for economics and finance while giving me the tools that helped me apply these learned subjects in real-life situations.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  I believe that the best tutors are experienced and qualified. Yet, those qualities are not enough by themselves. A tutor must have patience, out-of-the-box thinking, excellent interpersonal skills, and always treat the students with respect and compassion while maintaining a professional attitude and stoicism. Finally, it is my firm belief that each tutor needs to develop a tailor-made approach that will fit the particularities of each student.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  Until 14, I used to be terrible at writing essays. Yet it was in that year that I got an excellent English teacher. She was very picky about my work's structure and insisted that a solid essay structure is reflected even at the sentence level. With her continuous constructive feedback, I managed to excel in her class while finally learning to write good essays. This anecdote is a tell-tale of the ability of a great tutor to transform an individual student, something that drives me every day towards my mission to support and educate aspiring students.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  The main challenge I am currently facing is my quest to improve the online tutoring experience. I'm always amazed at how little technological progress is happening in this area and how the tools, such as interactive whiteboards and live code sharing, are not yet rising to students’ and tutors’ expectations.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  I'm very interested in financial markets. I'm also very intrigued by the latest advances in machine learning and their potential to upend our lives for the better.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

  I think I am one of the very few tutors who combine academic excellency on a wide variety of topics with real-life experience in the financial world. I have a deep understanding of the various topics that I teach, both at a theoretical level but also at a professional level. Moreover, I view tutoring as coaching, and instead of focusing only on helping the student with one subject, I take a more holistic view and help them deal with the whole approach to education.
