  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I was fortunate to grow up in a family of educators-teaching has always been part of my environment. My grandfather was a teacher, and I vividly remember watching my mother deliver private tutoring sessions with dedication and care. Being surrounded by such a strong culture of education naturally sparked my own passion for teaching, especially in one-on-one settings where I could focus on each student's individual strengths and challenges.

As for economics, my interest grew as I began to understand how it explains real-world behaviour-from individual choices to global systems. I was drawn to its combination of logic, data, and human decision-making, and found deep satisfaction in uncovering patterns and solving problems. That curiosity eventually evolved into a lifelong academic and professional pursuit.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach economics, a field I deeply enjoy and find endlessly rewarding. I work across both microeconomics and macroeconomics, and especially enjoy analytical topics like mathematical economics, econometrics, and economic modelling. These areas challenge students to think critically and precisely, and I find great joy in helping them build confidence in these skills.

Beyond theory, I also enjoy supporting students with academic writing, thesis development, and research design-helping them refine their arguments and communicate their ideas clearly. If there's one area I'm less drawn to, it might be very basic theory without application, as I find the real excitement comes when students can connect concepts to real-world evidence.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes-my PhD supervisor, Professor Magnani, had a profound impact on me. She exemplified what it means to be both an excellent academic and a well-rounded person. She was passionate about her field, incredibly organised, and a clear and methodical thinker. What stood out most was her ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance while remaining highly productive and deeply committed to her students. Her mentorship continues to inspire how I teach and interact with students today.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor must first and foremost be patient and attentive. Every student learns differently, so it's important to recognise their unique strengths, interests, and learning styles. A great tutor creates an engaging and supportive environment-one that sparks curiosity and holds students' attention. It's also essential to relate abstract concepts to real-world examples, so students not only understand the material but also see its relevance. Ultimately, a tutor should be a guide who builds confidence, nurtures critical thinking, and adapts their approach based on the student's progress.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my early undergraduate years, I remember struggling with a particularly complex econometrics assignment. One day, after hours of trying to decipher a model, a teaching assistant walked me through it using a simple real-world analogy. Suddenly, everything clicked. That moment taught me two things: first, that understanding often comes from how the material is explained; and second, that teaching is not about showing how much you know, but about helping others unlock what they're capable of. That experience continues to shape how I explain difficult concepts to students today-breaking them down, linking them to everyday life, and building up from there.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Economics, especially at an advanced level, can be conceptually dense and mathematically demanding. One ongoing challenge is balancing abstract theory with real-world relevance, particularly when teaching students with diverse academic backgrounds. In research, another challenge is keeping up with rapidly evolving data tools and methods-especially in econometrics-while maintaining conceptual clarity. But I see these challenges as opportunities; they push me to continuously refine my teaching, stay current with academic developments, and create accessible pathways for students to engage with complex material.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a particular passion for the mathematical and graphical aspects of economics. There's something incredibly satisfying about using a graph or a well-structured equation to explain a complex economic phenomenon in a clear, intuitive way. I love helping students see how abstract concepts become visual and logical when broken down step by step. That moment when a student finally understands a model or connects the dots between theory and application is deeply rewarding-and it's what keeps my passion for teaching alive.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

What sets me apart is a combination of academic depth, teaching experience, and genuine care for student progress. With over a decade of experience teaching economics at high school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, I tailor every lesson to each student's needs-whether they need help grasping basic concepts or mastering advanced econometric techniques. I prepare before and after sessions, offer offline support, and make learning relatable by connecting theory to real-world examples. My goal isn't just to help students pass a course-it's to help them enjoy learning and build long-term confidence in the subject. That's what makes me a Superprof.
