We are in the early stages of a brand-new beginning. Traditional religious and spiritual ways are in decline and new ways are replacing them. People want inner peace, not just promises, which is why this happens. People like to encounter sacred things firsthand rather than through the words of intermediaries. People desire loving relationships and social interaction rather than stressful isolation. People want communities that actually have their back, not communities that allow the powerful to prey on them.

One of the most difficult and rewarding things we will ever undertake in our life is to cultivate inner peace. What is the Sanskrit Word for Peace of Mind?

In Sanskrit, inner peace is often described as "antarashanti" (अंतरशान्ति). "Antara" means inner or within, and "shanti" means peace.

So, "antarashanti" refers to the tranquility, calmness, and harmony found within oneself. It encompasses a state of mental and emotional balance, free from disturbance and turmoil.

Inner peace is intimately tied to happiness. Buddhist philosophy through Mahatma Gandhi and the Dalai Lama, have all been great proponents of inner calm. The term "peace" has many different connotations. It is a word with multiple meanings that are used in a variety of circumstances.

Shanti and Chaina, which denote a person's spiritual or inner peace and mental tranquillity, are additional synonyms for peace in Sanskrit. Beyond a language investigation of peace, some faiths, such as Buddhism, Jainism, etc., emphasize the inner dimension of peace more than the exterior dimension of peace, which is the environment.

The Gayatri Mantra

A sacred verse believed to have originated in the ancient Rig Veda, written in Sanskrit approximately 2,500 to 3,500 years ago.

It is said that the sage Vishwamitra received the Gayatri Mantra from the Supreme Being, after years of devotion and meditation, to be shared with all people, and thus it is considered to have no earthly author.

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥

Om bhur-bhuvah svah Tat savitur varenyam Bhargo devasya dhimahi Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat

"Let us meditate on that excellent glory of the divine Light (Savitur, the Sun). May he stimulate our understandings (intuition, intellect)."

This mantra is often recited at the beginning of spiritual practices and rituals to invoke the divine's blessings and bring clarity and wisdom to the mind. It is also believed to remove obstacles and lead one towards spiritual liberation.

Sanskrit Slokas for Inner Peace [with Meaning]

Peace quote in sanskrit
Sanskrit Quotes on Peace | Superprof

Sanskrit shlokas or mantras help you focus on the quiet world within instead of the chaotic world around you. Sanskrit is where the word "mantra" first appeared, where "man" stands for "mind" and "tra" for "instrument" or "tool." There are several advantages to repeating calming mantras, including:

  • They aid in calming the mind.
  • They encourage you to keep your attention on the good things in life.
  • They aid in your quest for tranquillity, contentment, and peace of mind.
  • They help you find inner peace, connect with your spiritual side, and enhance your general health.
  • By regaining a core condition of uninhibited joy, they assist you in finding your spiritual essence in all facets of your life.

Mantras are potent sayings, words, or sounds that can be repeated aloud or silently to help with meditation, introspection, and personal development. Mantras have a specific sound vibration that vibrates throughout the entire body and produces a calming, long-lasting effect.

Here is a list of effective Sanskrit mantras together with their English translations. You don't have to commit their meanings to memory. The vibration you create when you chant them is what matters. So, pay attention to the sound and how it makes you feel.

यस्य कृत्यं न जानन्ति मन्त्रं वा मन्त्रितं परे।
कृतमेवास्य जानन्ति स वै पण्डित उच्यते ॥

दूसरे लोग जिसके कार्य, व्यवहार, गोपनीयता, सलाह और विचार को कार्य पूरा हो जाने के बाद ही जान पाते हैं, वही व्यक्ति ज्ञानी कहलाता है।
The person who knows his actions, behavior, confidentiality, and thoughts after completion of the task is the same person who is intelligent

मन एव मनुष्याणां कारणं बन्धमोक्षयोः।

कल क्या होगा यह कोई नहीं जानता है इसलिए कल के करने योग्य कार्य को आज कर लेने वाला ही बुद्धिमान है।

No one knows what is going to happen tomorrow. So doing all of tomorrow’s task today is a signature of wise.

Śāntarasa (Sanskrit: शान्तरस, occasionally spelled shantarasa denotes  the imaginative experience of tranquility, emotion of emotionlessness) is considered a ninth rasa, a concept of aesthetic flavor in Sanskrit literature.

Its stable emotion (sthyibhva) is impassivity (sama), which develops into detachment (Vairagya), which results from knowing the truth and having a pure mind.

Benefits of Chanting Sanskrit Slokas

Calmness Induced by Meditation

The most evident advantage of studying Sanskrit is the meditative state that reciting slokas in sanskrit can induce. Sanskrit shlokas' resonant tones have been shown time and time again to bring calmness to otherwise busy minds by lowering stress chemicals like cortisol.

Enhanced Cognitive Function

Your ability to recall information can be improved by being familiar with Sanskrit slokas. Learning Sanskrit has similar advantages to learning other foreign languages in terms of improving neuroplasticity and maintaining a sharp, open mind.

Creation of a Compassionate Spirit

A sense of inner peace is necessary for cultivating compassion and understanding, and it can be attained by the regular recitation of Sanskrit shlokas in conjunction with comprehension of their meanings. This is why it is crucial to comprehend the meanings of the Sanskrit shlokas one chants; by learning to "talk the talk," it is easier to "walk the walk."

Better Immunity

The immune system of your body can be strengthened organically by reciting Sanskrit shlokas. According to medical studies, repeating the Gayatri Mantra causes a resonance in and around your head because it exerts pressure on your tongue, lips, vocal cord, palate, and connected areas of your brain. These vibrations activate the hypothalamus, which then performs more effectively. This gland regulates the release and operation of several biological functions, including immunity.

The word shanti is used for peace in Sanskrit. Peaceful, nonviolent, calm, or undisturbed are the definitions of the word in literature. It signifies abstaining from mental and physical aggression and disturbances. It is a virtue under which some sentiment is to be removed from the mind instead of developing some sentiment in the mind. It aims to eliminate violent thoughts, feelings, and behaviors from daily life.
