As English is all about understanding and not mugging up
I read the story or poem
Line by line explain them
Then I ask my student to read once infront of me and once after they go back home
Then I make up possible questions and ask them to make their own answer first and then show me
Correct them
And the grammar portion
I teach them each topic each day and I make sure I do enough of exercises from different books for them to understand
