Dr. Aroop Chatterjee, born in June 1980 is a promising and talented tabla player of his generation. He belongs to the cultural capital of India - Varanasi. He was blessed to have learned Tabla from Pt. Chhotelal Mishra, who was an exponent of Banaras Gharana.
He has done his doctorate of philosophy in “Critical Analysis of Gats in farukhabad Gharana “
Among his numerous achievements, he is ranked as ‘B high Grade’ Artist of A.I.R (Akashvani, All India Radio) by The Government of India.
Dr. Aroop Chatterjee has given Concerts Across all the Major venues and prestigious Music festivals of India like Lucknow Mahotsav (2010), Sangeet Sankalp Allahabad (2005) to name a few. He also has the Honor of accompanying Great artists like Pandit Narendra Dhar, Late Vidhushi Purnima Chaudhary, Shashank Maktedar, Pt. Ankit Bhatt, Shri Deepak Chatterjee, and Hrishikesh Gangurde to name a few.
Dr. Aroop Chatterjee Also holds the experience of playing tabla in ‘Tall Vadhya Kachahari ‘(a group Ensemble of various percussion instruments)
Aroop Chatterjee also Holds the prestigious Title of Tall mani Award; A percussion award which is given by the Sur Singar Samsad Parishad, Mumbai, 2007. He also Received the State Scholarship by the Cultural Department of U.P in the year 1992- 1994.
