Regarding the educational qualification for IBPS PO exams, a candidate must have completed a graduate degree from a certified university in any branch or discipline. For instance, if you are applying for the IBPS PO exam, you have to ensure that you have a graduation certificate at hand before the date of registration. If you comply with the age limit set forth by the IBPS governing body but fail to furnish a graduation certificate on time, your application will be counted as ineligible.

IBPS exam is exclusively for Indian citizens. Therefore, furnishing your identity proof as an authorized Indian citizen is mandatory.

Now let us concentrate on the different stages of the IBPS exam.

IBPS PO Preliminary Test Pattern

IBPS exam is held in two languages - English and Hindi. The one-hour long preliminary test comprises 3 sections. These sections are:

  • English Language
  • Numerical Ability
  • Reasoning Ability

There will be a total of 100 MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) that you need to solve within the stipulated duration. Each section is allotted 20 minutes to solve the questions.

  • The English Language section contains 30 questions (20 minutes)
  • The Numerical Ability section contains 35 questions (20 minutes)
  • The Reasoning Ability section contains 35 questions (20 minutes)

The total mark for the IBPS PO prelims exam is 100. For each correct answer, you will be rewarded with 1 point. However, you should be cautious about negative markings. For each wrong answer, you will be penalized with 0.25 points (-0.25). Generally, there is a cut-off mark set by the IBPS society for each section before the Mains exam. One must score equal to or more than the cut-off mark to qualify for the next round.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Analysis

The preliminary test for IBPS PO is followed by the most crucial and extensive round of IBPS PO Mains. A detailed IBPS PO Mains Exam Analysis is discussed below for the reference of prospective candidates.

IBPS PO Mains Exam

IBPS PO Mains is an extensive online test that consists of 5 segments. The segments or sections under the IBPS PO Mains exam are:

  • Reasoning and Computer Aptitude (60 marks)
  • English Language (40 marks)
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation (60 marks)
  • General Economy and Banking Awareness (40 marks)
  • English Language Writing Skills (Letter and Essay) (25 marks)

Each section will have a varied number of questions with a varied duration. The details of the same are shared below:

  • A total of 45 questions need to be solved on the Reasoning and Computer Aptitude paper within 60 minutes.
  • A total of 35 questions need to be solved on the English Language paper within 40 minutes.
  • A total of 35 questions need to be solved on the Data Analysis and Interpretation paper within 45 minutes.
  • A total of 40 questions need to be solved on the General Economy and Banking Awareness paper within 35 minutes.
  • A total of 2 questions need to be solved on the English Language Writing Skills paper within 30 minutes.

Overall, the Mains exam consists of 225 marks and the total duration of the exam is 210 minutes (3 hours and 30 minutes). Similar to the Prelims, the objective questions (MCQs) in the Mains exam are subject to negative markings. A wrong answer will lead to a penalty of 0.25 points. The cut-off mark for each section will be announced by the IBPS governing authority on time.

IBPS PO Interview

Last but not the list is the interview round. While you are by now aware of the IBPS PO Mains Exam Analysis, you should also have a fair idea about the interview round.

The successful candidates are called to the final interview round of the IBPS Exam. This round comprises 100 marks and the cut-off percentage for General candidates in this round is 40% (for SC/ ST/ OBC and PWD candidates, it is 35%).

The interview session lasts about 15-20 minutes, during which a panel of bank officials asks the candidates questions about themselves, the banking industry, current events, general awareness, and so on. Candidates must arrive at the interview well-dressed, confident, and with all relevant documents.

The final merit list is compiled using the results of the main examination and the interview. IBPS calculates the final score by allocating 80 percent of the marks to the main examination and 20 percent to the interview.

Calculation of the Final Score

The following factors are taken into account while calculating the final result for the IBPS PO exam:

  • The Preliminary Test is carried out to choose the candidates for the Mains Exam. No marks are carried forward from the prelims to the final score calculation.
  • Candidates who appeared in the Mains exam and qualified for the interview round must pass both segments individually. Candidates who have passed the Mains but failed to qualify in the interview session will be rejected.
  • As discussed earlier, the weightage ratio of the Mains versus the interview round is 80:20.
  • During the final calculation, candidates are ranked based on the aforementioned weightage and the toppers are deemed to have qualified in the IBPS exam.
