My teaching method is a 1 to 1 lesson. I try to create a good professional relationship with my students from the very begging, which allows me to get to know them better and adapt my teaching methods and teaching material for each student in particular. My classes are based in technical and expressive musical aspects, which is developed within the student's repertoire.
I teach accordion to anyone between grade 1 and 8, either looking for a more professional approach to the instrument or just a hobby. I can teach any repertoire and work with any type of accordion, with a particular focus to classical music and chromatic bass button accordions.
Online lessons are possible as well. I have experience with several online platforms which include video calls.
Flávio Albino Rodrigues was born in Viseu, Portugal, in 2000. Born into a family where both his mother and his father played accordion, he was drawn into music at a very young age. With 6 years old he began to read music and play the accordion, alongside with guitar and cavaquinho (a traditional Portuguese instrument), with his father as his professor. Soon he joined his parents in traditional Portuguese folk music groups, playing the guitar. But he wanted to pursue his studies playing the classical accordion. Therefore, in 2010 he began studying at the Corservatório Regional de Música de Viseu as an accordion student. He studied there for 8 years, with professors Abel Moura and Nuno Silva, without ever loosing contact with the folk music groups, which gave him the opportunity to play in many important venues and to important identities, such as Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis at the Hall Pope Paul VI in the Vatican, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres at the United Nations’ Headquarters in New York. In December of 2017 he auditioned for the Royal Academy of Music, in London, where he got admitted. He began his studies there in September 2018, as an accordion student, with professor and Head of Accordion Owen Murray. He is currently in his second year of the Bachelor’s degree, and he has had masterclasses with Alfred Melichar, Friedrich Lips, Borut Zagoransky, Anita Agnes and Mario Stephano Pietrodarcci, all of them famous world known accordionists. He also had masterclasses with guitarist Stephen Goss, playing chamber music with guitar, and clarinetist Tomas Agnes, playing with saxophone. Some of his main performances include the participation in two opera productions as part of the orchestra, namely Royal Academy Opera’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Lunchbreak Opera’s Gianni Schicchi, and his performance in the London International Guitar Competition, at the ASPIRE Platform Concert, playing a duo with guitarist Diogo Carlos, invited by Steve Goss to represent the Royal Academy of Music in the festival. He has also been playing in Lunchbreak Concerts and Evening Concerts at the Royal Academy of Music.
I am a classical accordionist, currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music, in London. My main goal is to gather as many concerts and learning opportunities as possible during my studies. Besides that, I’m looking for teaching opportunities to work with young children and teenagers, as I believe it is of great importance to introduce them to the classical music and the classical accordion.
